What it is

eIDAS 2.0 is the EU regulation governing digital identity and trust services, amended in 2024 to establish the European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet: a member-state-issued wallet through which citizens and businesses hold and present verified attributes, with qualified electronic attestations carrying legal effect across the Union.

How SIGNET supports it

eIDAS 2.0 sits in SIGNET's compliance enablement tier — the honest framing for a legal framework rather than a data standard. SIGNET does not implement eIDAS, and carrying an attestation in a SIGNET network confers no qualified status on it. What the standard provides is structural readiness.

SIGNET's identity layer is built on the same W3C primitives the EUDI wallet ecosystem draws on: decentralised identifiers for parties and verifiable credentials for claims about them. A wallet-issued attestation of a business attribute — registration, mandate to represent, certification — is structurally the kind of object SIGNET's Credential is designed to carry, verify, and reference from eligibility policies. As eIDAS-qualified attestations become the normal way European businesses prove attributes, a SIGNET network can consume them as native data rather than through bespoke integration.

The specifics of qualified-attestation profiles are still stabilising across the EU toolbox; a normative eIDAS profile of the Credential object would follow the change-proposal process once those specifics settle.
